POST-CRISIS DEBRIEFING: REVIEW, RECORD & RELAX
A crisis response is not complete when the immediate incident ends. Debriefing helps teams learn, document, and recover.
THE THREE R’S
REVIEW. RECORD. RELAX.
Review: Identify what happened before, during, and after the crisis. Look for triggers, effective interventions, communication breakdowns, and opportunities for prevention.
Record: Complete required documentation accurately, objectively, and according to organizational policy.
Relax: Support recovery. Staff and participants may need time, space, reassurance, supervision, or follow-up before returning to normal activities.
Debriefing should improve future prevention—not become a blame session.
